Where I Grew Up:
I was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Longview, Texas
B.A. in Journalism from North Texas State University
M.A. in Higher Education Administration, University of Denver
Ph.D. in Educational Human Resource Development, Texas A&M University
I am married to the beautiful and talented Garret (Ross) Jackson who grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado
Three amazing daughters (good thing they take after their mother): Taylor (Jackson) Buchanan, Lauren Jackson, and Emily Jackson
Why Harris Creek?:
There is so much about Harris Creek that we cherish–the mission, people, sharing life together, and great teaching and worship–these are just a few of the reasons that come to mind. Most importantly, God is at work, and Garret and I desire to be a part of His plans and purposes.
Rusty's Space Ship ranks near the top–I read it in the 3rd grade and was hooked on adventure-oriented chapter books. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee impacted my view of justice, and books that shaped my spiritual journey include Wild at Heart by John Eldrege, Experiencing God by Henry and Richard Blackaby, and Let Your Life Speak by Parker Palmer. My all-time favorite is The Bible in that it reveals God's truths to me daily.
The Wizard of Oz is my all-time favorite movie. Farther back in the pack would be adventure movies along the lines of Saving Private Ryan and any Jason Bourne undertaking. I also enjoy an occasional science fiction movie like the Star Trek series.
Most Interesting Thing You May Not Know About Me:
Perhaps the most interesting thing is I have been struck by lightning–twice. Yes, once as a lifeguard and the other time helping a child into her parent's van in a church parking lot. Both times, I came out relatively unscathed except for a few scrapes from being knocked out of my lifeguard chair and a blister on my finger from the second experience. So, you may want to steer clear of me when a thunderstorm is on the horizon.
