A regular meeting of the elders of Harris Creek Baptist Church was called to order May 10th, 2017, at 6:30 a.m. Brad Lail, Chair, presided. A quorum was present. In attendance were Blair Browning, Brady Herbert, P. Michael Smith, Jim Underwood, Kevin Jackson, and Mark Welstead. Also in attendance were Drew Greenway, Rebecca Harris, Trent Horner, Joey White, and Jon Green.
Brad Lail opened the meeting in prayer.
The minutes from the April 12th meeting were reviewed and approved.
Joey White gave a brief overview of the April financials for the church as well as provided an overview of the church's progress with Our Turn. Despite increasing our budget the past two years, the church continues to meet our budget as well as underspend based on the budget. However, we will need to build more of a surplus in order to continue toward the Our Turn goal. As always, we are grateful for the many faithful, and indeed, "cheerful givers" in our church.
Joey White highlighted specific areas of the upcoming Ministry Plan, and he noted several experiments that the teams will take on. As a church, we want to key in on three areas – these are: 1) poverty/homelessness; 2) adoption/foster care; 3) women/children/families. We are doing this in order to cultivate a rich focus of ministry and to provide a more targeted approach collectively for our Body. For example, the college group will pursue a mission trip with Living Water International. Not only does this fit within the first key area of poverty, but it also encompasses one of our principles as a church: "Deep over Wide." We have a long-standing relationship with this ministry and this will be a way to increase our involvement. We will have a several new ministries launch this year, and again, more focused ministry partnerships throughout our teams.
Another exciting development will be the addition of Life Group Coaches. We do NOT want to pull people away permanently from the life groups that they have formed a strong connection with, and yet we DO want to take advantage of their knowledge that stems from having healthy group experiences. Thus, we will ask and train couples to be Life Group Coaches where they will help facilitate new life groups for 6-8 weeks beginning in the fall. This will enable a new life group to get off to a great start with people who understand "best practices" for Life Groups. During this period, the hope is that leaders will emerge from within the group and that the Life Group Coaches can return to their groups with confidence that they have helped the new group get off to a great start.
We remain very excited about the opportunities for leadership development for both staff and for our
members that will result from this new Ministry Plan. More so, we are excited about the ministry
that will occur both within and outside of the church walls. We are thankful for the thoughtful planning process in which staff members were truly pushed to create and to consider innovative ideas.
Brady Herbert talked about the fact that multiple members of staff have been asked to officiate weddings. We will engage in licensing these staff members, as it will provide more structure and coverage for our staff.
Joey White discussed the first meeting later in the day led by K4 that had a lengthy agenda and had numerous subcontractors in attendance. He also noted that construction would be beginning later in the day! The plan is to be entering the new building in fall '18 coinciding with the start of the school year.
Multiple prayer requests and praises were given and Drew Greenway closed in prayer.
