SUNWEST CAMPUS Volunteer positions & EXPECTATIONS

For all these positions, an active faith journey, willingness to volunteer on a regular basis, belief in Harris Creek's mission, and an openness to receiving instruction from leadership is required. If you are serving within Harris Creek, it is also our hope that you are actively involved in a Life Group, a Covenant Member (or in the process of becoming one), and investing financially with Harris Creek.  BEGIN MINISTRY APPLICATION

 

KIDS


CREATE INFANT/TODDLER (2 MONTHS – 2 YEARS) CLASSROOM LEADER

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Perform normal nursery responsibilities, including diaper changing, feeding children, cleaning nursery areas, and simply holding babies as necessary
  • Use basic spiritual truths in conversation with children

 

CREATE PRESCHOOL (3 – 5 YEARS) CLASSROOM LEADER

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Lead children through the specific activities and lesson using provided materials
  • Initiate all dialogue and communication with children in the classroom

 

FIRST IMPRESSIONS LEADER

  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Walk first time guests through check-in, procedures for drop-off and pick-up, and finding assigned classrooms
  • Use our computer check-in system to print nametags and complete attendance for children in our ministry area

 

KINDERGARTEN LEADER

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Lead children through the specific activities and lesson using provided materials
  • Initiate all dialogue and communication with children in the classroom
  • Model worship as they participate in large group worship with their small group

 

NAVIGATE SMALL GROUP LEADER

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Build meaningful relationships with the children through conversation and provided discussion questions
  • Model worship as they participate in large group worship with their small group

 

NAVIGATE LARGE GROUP HOST

  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Possess a commanding stage presence and express confidence leading large groups of elementary students using skits, media, and activities to introduce and drive home the message shared by the story teller
  • Use training materials, scripts, and props (provided in advance)
  • Model worship during entire large group time

 

NAVIGATE LARGE GROUP STORY TELLER

  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Possess a commanding stage presence and express confidence leading large groups of elementary students using skits and media to clearly communicate the weekly content/message
  • Use training materials, scripts, and props (provided in advance)
  • Model worship during entire large group time

 

NAVIGATE AUDIO/VISUAL SUPPORT

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to activity start time
  • Be available to help with lights, sound, and video (no previous experience required)
  • Model worship during entire large group time

 

ELEMENTARY COORDINATOR

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to service start time
  • Be present on the Elementary Hall during drop-off to welcome kids and parents and also assist first-time guests
  • Count attendance once Large Group has gathered
  • Help the Large Group team with props and the order of service during Navig8
  • Be in the Navig8 room during the service as a resource if a child needs to use the restroom or a SGL needs assistance
  • Call for pick-up after service

 

NAVIGATE MUSICIAN

  • Arrive 90 minutes prior to activity start time for rehearsal
  • Posses experience playing your musical instrument preferably in a worship setting
  • Model worship during entire large group time
  • Engage the children in worship during large group time

 

YOUTH


Life Group Leader

  • Shepherd the students in your Life Group as a faith influencer and create an environment in Life Group where honest conversation can take place as the deep roots of community are formed
  • Contextualize the talk at Mountaintop each week into age-appropriate conversation through questions provided by Youth Staff
  • Prepare for every Life Group by thinking through the Life Group questions ahead of time
  • Pray for your group regularly
  • Communicate with parents and students about upcoming events and hangouts
  • Take attendance weekly at Life Group
  • Attend 75% of Youth Events (i.e. Late Nights, Retreats, etc.)
  • Attend 1 Mandatory Leader Training Meeting (large group format) and meet 2 times with Youth Minister for equipping (one-on-one format)
  • Read weekly emails and reply promptly when needed
  • Attend church and be involved in Life Group
  • Prioritize your own walk with Christ

 

team leader 

  • Shepherd students as a faith influencer and serve on a team that helps prepare for and lead out at Mountaintop each week. Teams include: game team, skit team, prayer team, worship team, tech team, and hospitality team.
  • Take ownership of these teams and the tasks involved as we work to create an environment sustainable to spiritual and relational growth
  • Take turns helping with set up and tear down for Mountaintop each week
  • Provide a welcoming and engaging first impression for all students attending Mountaintop; go overboard on hospitality
  • Attend 75% of Youth Events (i.e. Late Nights, Retreats, etc.)
  • Attend 1 Mandatory Leader Training Meeting (large group format) and meet 2 times with Youth Minister for equipping (one-on-one format)
  • Read weekly emails and reply promptly when needed
  • Attend church and be involved in Life Group
  • Prioritize your own walk with Christ

 

COLLEGE


College Leadership Team

  • Attend all Leadership Team meetings (3 times per semester) and be prepared to discuss the agenda items
  • Participate in corporate worship and a Harris Creek College Life Group
  • Assist with the planning, marketing, and execution of College Ministry events, including—but not limited to—College Night of Worship (once a semester) and the Spring Retreat
  • Communicate promptly with the College Minister (or other Leadership Team members) when necessary

 

College Life Group Leader

  • Attend and make arrangements for weekly college Life Group meeting during scheduled season; responsibilities to be administered might include hosting, meal/snack, alternate facilitators, and prayer lists
  • Attend 2 Life Group Leader training meetings (large group format) and meet 2-3 times with the College Minister (individual format) each semester (bi-weekly meetings with the College Minister are an additional opportunity for your development)
  • Participate in corporate events (weekly worship, Imagine Banquet, Chili Cook-Off, etc.) and in College Ministry events (Night of Worship once a semester, Spring Retreat, etc.)
  • Cultivate a shared commitment to biblical community in accordance with our discipleship philosophy:
  • (Community) – Grow in your relationships and build trust with inviting hospitality as well as respect for group dynamics
  • (Equipping) – Prepare in advance to facilitate discussion, engage all opinions in the conversation, and promote lived application of content
  • (Worship) – Pray with and for your group members and demonstrate intentionality in opportunities to respond to God together
  • (Mission) –Relay community needs, gather reports of each member's externally-focused actions, and serve together at least once a semester
  • Be involved in group members' lives outside of the weekly group meeting; this includes communication (via phone call, text, social media, email, etc.)
  • Communicate promptly with the College Minister (or other Life Group Leaders) when necessary, particularly about situations requiring assistance or celebration

 

Life Group Sponsor

  • Support and encourage the Life Group Leaders as they lead their peers
  • Pray for the Life Group leaders and members
  • Invest in members of the Life Group individually and as a group
  • Host the Life Group and provide a meal (at least occasionally)
  • Live by example – Be above reproach as a role model and share wise counsel
  • Attend a designated training workshop once a semester
  • Communicate promptly with the College Minister, particularly about situations requiring assistance or celebration

 

ADULT


Adult Life Group Leader

  • Attend and make arrangements for weekly Life Group meetings during scheduled season; responsibilities to be administered might include hosting, meal/snack preparation, alternating facilitators, and compiling prayer lists
  • Attend Life Group Leader workshops (3 annual, large group format) and meet at least twice per semester with a staff member
  • Participate in corporate events (Sunday services and other corporate worship events like Lessons & Carols and Ash Wednesday, Community Day, Imagine Banquet, and mission opportunities like Toy Store, etc.)
  • Cultivate biblical community in accordance with our discipleship philosophy:
  • (Community) – Grow in your relationships and build trust with inviting hospitality as well as respect for group dynamics
  • (Equipping) –Prepare in advance to facilitate discussion, engage all opinions in the conversation, and promote lived application of content
  • (Worship) –Pray with and for your group members and demonstrate intentionality in opportunities to respond to God together
  • (Mission) – Gather reports of individual, externally-focused actions, and serve together at least once a semester
  • Be involved in group members' lives outside of the weekly group meeting; this includes communication (via phone call, text, social media, email, etc.)
  • Communicate promptly with the Community Pastor (or other Life Group Leaders when necessary), particularly about situations requiring assistance or celebration

 

Community Development Team

  • Attend Life Group Leader workshops (3 annual, large group format)
  • Attend strategy meetings each semester to discuss broad topics for Life Groups, assist in identifying new leaders and placing new requests, and receive further training to pass along to Life Group Leaders
  • Communicate promptly with the Community Pastor (and other Community Development Team members when necessary)

 

WORSHIP/TECH


ProPresenter Slide Operator

  • Arrive 1 hour prior to the start of services
  • Exhibit an eagerness to learn Pro Presenter software (no previous experience required)
  • Troubleshoot incorrect slides when necessary
  • Run slides for both the worship team and sermon during consecutive worship services

 

Light Operator

  • Arrive 1 hour prior to the start of services
  • Express an eagerness to learn how to operate a light board (no previous experience required)
  • Cue light settings during consecutive worship services

 

Audio Technician

  • Arrive 2 hours prior to the start of services
  • Possess experience with digital soundboards
  • Run sound during rehearsal, run through, and consecutive worship services

 

Worship Team Musician

  • Arrive 2 hours prior to the start of services
  • Possess experience with your particular musical instrument
  • Attend our audition process
  • Rehearse individually during the week and come prepared on Sunday mornings
  • Play/sing in consecutive worship services

 

SUNDAY MORNING EXPERIENCE


First Impression/Parking Team

  • Arrive 20 minutes prior to each service and stay in the parking lot 20 minutes after the start of each service
  • Assist with directing traffic, helping people find parking spots, helping people unload cars and kids, utilizing umbrellas when needed, etc.
  • Smile and have a welcoming, joyful attitude
  • Attend corporate worship (but be in place 20 minutes prior to and after each service)

 

Greeter

  • Arrive at the Sunwest Campus 20 minutes prior to the start of services and greet until 20 minutes after the start of each service
  • Be aware of upcoming events designed to help people more actively engage in the life of Harris Creek
  • Know the layout of the Sunwest Campus, especially the location of bathrooms
  • Smile and have a welcoming, helpful attitude
  • Be on the lookout for newcomers and those who might have questions
  • Assist guests in become more connected with Harris Creek through filling out visitor cards
  • Assist people in joining a Life Group through filling out a Life Group card
  • Attend corporate worship (but be in place 20 minutes prior to and after each service)

 

Seater

  • Arrive 20 minutes prior to each service and assist people with their seats until 20 minutes after the start of each service
  • Help newcomers find enough seats for those in their party
  • Record headcount
